How to evaluate your ATS

Four years ago, I evaluated Ashby alongside our existing ATS. Since our ATS is the backbone of our operations, replacing it is no small decision—it requires careful consideration and input from the entire team.


At the end of my evaluation, I sent this summary to leadership: 


  • We will see significant cost savings by replacing [unnamed ATS] with Ashby.

  • [Unnamed ATS] lacks the functionality needed to support our current and future talent acquisition strategy. Ashby delivers the capabilities we’re missing—reducing our reliance on multiple tools and avoiding future investments.

  • Ashby met or exceeded all integration and workflow requirements, aligning or providing an improved workflow with our existing setup.


Today I’m releasing the guide I built for that evaluation—the same one I used to compare our ATS with Ashby. My hope is that it helps others who are asking the same questions I was: Is our ATS working for us? Is it helping us hire the way we want to?
